Year 6 were privileged to be asked to participate at two Holocaust Memorial services this year. The first was the official Hackney Holocaust Memorial Service at Hackney Town Hall. It was a very sombre and moving experience.
At the beginning of the service the children sang Eili Eili, written by Hannah Senesh. For the second song, the Year 6 was joined by some children from the Olive School and sang, We Shall Overcome by Peter Seeger. All the children performed beautifully and felt honoured to be part of the service.
The second service was at St. Joseph’s Hospice. The Year 6 children were pleased to be invited to such a special place and to close the service with the two songs they had performed before at Hackney Town Hall. The children rose to the occasion and performed by themselves without any accompaniment. We were all made to feel very welcome and were given a tour of the gardens before saying goodbye.
