The Simon Marks community rests on four pillars – the children, the parents, the staff and the group I lead: the governors. There are currently twelve of us, all committed to ensuring the school we love continues to flourish. Many of us, including me, are parents of Simon Marks pupils, whether current or former. Some are teachers and some are friends of the school from the wider Jewish community. But what we all have in common is the ambition to make Simon Marks Jewish Primary the very best school it can be.
Our role is that of any good critical friend – both to provide support and encouragement, celebrating the school’s strengths and achievements, and to give advice and counsel, identifying those areas where the school needs to do more. That work is done in regular meetings of the full Governing Board, but also by specific working groups or committees that closely monitor specific aspects of school life – whether that’s finances and personnel or Simon Marks’ core mission, teaching and learning. The work is also done in day-to-day dialogue with our Headteacher, offering advice and support when it’s needed.
A word about the composition of the Governing Board membership: two are Parent Governors, elected for four-year terms by all current parents at the school. The staff elect a Governor too. As a voluntary-aided faith school, we currently have six Foundation Governors, appointed for four years each by the Simon Marks Jewish Primary School Trust.
If you have any queries at all, you can contact one of our Parent Governors or, better still, contact me. My email is howardpallis@hotmail.com
With warmest best wishes,
